Fred Thompson Says He Has Cancer

ThompsonRepublican Fred Thompson, the former senator from Tennessee, current actor, and my personal favorite for the Republican Presidential candidate, announced today that he has lymphoma, a form of cancer.

Here's the story: Fred Thompson Says He Has Cancer

Here's a quote:

In an interview with Fox News, the former Tennessee senator said he is in remission and the diagnosis shouldn't affect his life expectancy.

Thompson, 64, told Fox News Channel's Neil Cavuto that he has non- Hodgkin's lymphoma, but hasn't been ill or had any symptoms.

"I am in remission and it is very treatable with drugs if treatment is needed in the future," the Republican said in a statement to Fox.

Lymphoma is an immune-system cancer that strikes more than 71,000 Americans a year. The vast majority have the non-Hodgkin's form of lymphoma, a term that encompasses more than 30 different subtypes of the disease.

Some of these subtypes are termed "indolent," meaning they typically respond well to treatment—patients often go into remission for long periods, but the disease is not cured and may need to be battled back again periodically.

It seems to me this means that he will be running, as there would be no other reason to make an announcement of this nature.

Any thoughts?

I hope he runs!! Cancer or not, he's the better choice for America (given the candidates I've seen so far).

I'd much rather have a president who suffers from a physical illness, than from a serious spiritual one.

James

He may have spilled the news fearing that he would be "outed" while discerning whether or not to run. Anyway, both McCain and Guiliani are cancer survivors, so it doesn't seem to be an issue.

I'm sorry to hear about his diagnosis. My grandmother has lymphoma, please, everyone, keep her in your prayers as well. She's not doing well. :'-(

Speaking about candidates, though, what do ya'll think of Ron Paul? He's my top choice.

Fred Dalton Thompson is the only true
Conservative among Republicans who can
carry the South and win the National
election in 2008. His cancer is in
remission. I am not worried. I believe
with all my heart and soul that the Lord
Jesus Christ will be with him and will
guide him as he leads this nation into
a higher and nobler realm. America has
yet to reach her potential, spiritually,
and Fred Dalton Thompson is the one to
move us forward, both
nationally and internationally. If FDT
is God's man, as I truly believe he is, then we have nothing to fear. God is still in control of this once great nation, and
with FDT at the helm, we, as a people, will regain our God-given good sense, elect
him as president, and begin once again moving ever onward into an even greater future.
