I read the article below with a sense of disbelief. Disbelief because the priest in question is a Benedictine, from a reputable monastery.
The title of this post "No Distinction Without Hierarchy" comes from Aristotle. In full it would read "There is no distinction without hierarchy." Back when the founder of this blog (Maximus) and I attended the same Catholic boys school in OC, they still taught us these ancient maxims. The other one that the libs hate is "no thing can be true and false at the same time." Got to give it to those ancients.
Earlier this summer, Smith called pro-life House Democrats “heroic” for their willingness to buck their party’s pro-abortion leadership and vote against a House bill that authorized the provision of taxpayer money to groups that promote abortion overseas.
So what is it like serving as a pro-life Congressional Democrat in the current Democrat-controlled Congress?
I have noticed that, from time to time, liberals attempt to claim that Jesus was a liberal. I think the claim stems from the notion that Jesus was "anti-establishment" (which isn't entirely true), that Jesus preached about forgiveness and encouraged leniency (primarily because of the severity of the punishments meted out during His public ministry, not because He didn't believe in punishment; he mentioned the reality of the threat of hell far more often than He spoke of heaven), His concern for the poor, and His teaching that we would be judged on whether or not we practiced the corporal works of mercy (To feed the hungry; To give drink to the thirsty; To clothe the naked; To shelter the homeless; To visit the sick; To visit the imprisoned; To bury the dead).
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (Aug. 25) - Malaysia's government ordered a Tamil-language daily to immediately halt publication for a month Friday as punishment for printing an image of Jesus Christ holding a cigarette, an official with the newspaper said.
S.M. Periasamy, general manager of Makkal Osai, which caters to Malaysia's ethnic Indian minority, said his office received the directive by fax from the Internal Security Ministry.
New York City’s school chancellor wants an Islamic public school
Ann Arbor, Aug 28, 2007 / 09:13 am (Catholic News Agency)- The New York City Department of Education approved a proposal to open a publicly funded Muslim school. The decision, however, is not going by unchallenged.
The Thomas More Law Center announced yesterday that it will represent a group of citizens opposed to the Sept. 4 opening of Khalil Gibran International Academy (KGIA).
The Law Center will act as co-counsel with attorney David Yerushalmi, who filed a Freedom of Information Act request on July 23, asking for more details about KGIA. Yerushalmi’s requests have gone unanswered to date.
The Law Center claims the school is nothing more than a thinly disguised incubator for Islamist radicalization. Richard Thompson, president and chief counsel of the Law Center, said an NYPD Intelligence Report warned Americans of the same thing about two weeks ago.
Perhaps I should have titles this posting "Dupe of the Bolsheviks," as I don't know if this particular Jesuit is a communist. Whatever the case he is the "dupe," stooge, useful idiot, or whatever other term you may wih to insert of one of the greatest evils of the 20th, and now 21st century.
Read below: "Father Brennan said the teachings of the Second Vatican Council inspired him to make the trip." (to communist Cuba)
Wisconsin Jesuit priest joins humanitarian caravan to Cuba
MILWAUKEE (CNS) -- In his 87 years, many memories have formed in Jesuit Father Bill Brennan's mind.
An experience that he said changed his life took place in 1954 in Guatemala. While he was serving as a missionary in Honduras, his parents journeyed from Milwaukee to Honduras and he convinced them to travel to Guatemala to go sightseeing. However, the travelers didn't know that the U.S. CIA was beginning a coup against the elected government of Guatemala.
The Kiss of Judas by Gustave Doré (January 6, 1832 – January 23, 1883)
Summorum Pontificum plainly states that starting September 14, 2007, the Extraordinary Form of the Latin Rite (Tridentine Mass or Traditional Latin Mass) is to be made available to the faithful in their parishes if they ask for it. Bishop Brown has prevented this from taking place, which is not obedient to the Holy Father's express directive.
The pastor, not the bishop, is the one to grant such requests and permission from the bishop is not required.
However, Bishop Brown has seen to it that St. Mary's by the Sea has no pastor, which gives him more leverage.
I found the article below interesting on two fronts:
1.) While I concur that the SSPX are "schismatics," at least they are honest, up-front schismatics. They say what they mean and mean what they say. Isn't the greater threat in Holy Mother Church the "crypto" Modernists who do not say what they mean, who cling to the institutional Church for it's wealth and it's power, and to utilize both to spread their error.
2.) This unsigned article actually refers to the Tridentine mass as "a 16th-century version of the Latin Mass." Now either the author is incredibly ignorant of Church history, or this would be a prima facie example of the use of schewed language ala Orwell's "Doublespeak," or more recent Soviet disinformation campaigns.
Archdiocese bans schismatic sect from Denver churches
Denver, Aug 27, 2007 / 10:38 am (Catholic News Agency).- Members of the schismatic Society of St. Pius X complied with directives from the Archdiocese of Denver on Saturday, banning them from praying in two Denver churches.
Since 1999, members of St. Isidore the Farmer Church in Watkins, Colorado have embarked on a 50-mile walking pilgrimage to Mother Cabrini Shrine in Golden, Colorado to thank God for the completion of their church.
In the past, the pilgrims stopped along the route to pray and rest in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception or Holy Ghost Church, both in downtown Denver.
However, the last several years, parishioners from the two churches complained that the pilgrims were leaving behind Pius X literature and trying to recruit members, communications director Jeanette DeMelo told Rocky Mountain News.
In 2002, Archbishop Charles Chaput put an end to these pilgrims celebrating their Mass at the Cabrini shrine because of the group has split from the Roman Catholic Church. Since then, the pilgrims have celebrated their Mass at the highway turnout below the shrine.
The Vatican has determined that the Society of St. Pius X is schismatic based on its adherence to a 16th-century version of the Latin Mass, its rejection of the Second Vatican Council, and in some cases, their rejection of the authority of the Pope.
