Catholic Archbishop George Niederauer Gives Communion to Blasphemous "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence"

Sistersholyredeemer

Here's the story: More San Francisco Nuttiness: Catholic Archbishop George Niederauer Gives Communion to Blasphemous ‘Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence’

Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church website also shows pictures of the event, but the site does not include images of the homosexual activist "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" or Archbishop Niederauer giving them Holy Communion.

Here's the link to their site: Thank You , Archbishop Niederauer!

My thoughts:

There is absolutely no excuse for allowing homosexual activist men dressed as women who are known for their public advocacy of the homosexual "lifestyle" to receive Holy Communion. Archbishop Niederauer has betrayed his vocation in doing so.

I'm aware that the excuse will be that Christ dined with sinners and that the Son of Man came to heal sinners.

Nice try.

Our Lord told people to repent. He told the woman caught in adultery to "sin no more". He didn't invite unrepentant, sacrilegious "drag queens" who are proud to have the world know they love to do shameful things with their bodies to the Last Supper in order to receive Him the Most Holy Eucharist.

The excuse that the Archbishop didn't know who the "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" are won't work either. He knew enough to allow his archdiocese to cancel their use of Church property for "revival bingo" (but only after the scandal was made widely known on the internet – before that, they'd been doing revival bingo for a long time, even before doing it at the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church parish hall, and their activities were not a secret).

For another example of what "The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" advocate, see: The "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" Lead "Revival Bingo"

Any thoughts?

Hi everyone, I'm a long time reader and am just absorbing everything that you have been writing. I'm still young (early 20's) and am just amazed at how much is being exposed here. I have much inside information as far as seminary goes (I'm in formation) and a lot of this stuff sounds familiar, not only in the Diocese of Orange, but also in the diocese where I am currently residing. Growing up in a traditional religious order parish, I've been called rigid and antique. I really do appreciate all of this coming to light. I do have to say, I've read Bishop Brown's deposition, I've spoken to a few upper echelon priests about it (from Orange), and this article today about Archbishop Niederhauer (that correct?) just pushed me over the edge. It will be coming up tomorrow with some of the guys I know from San Francisco. I don't know enough I guess to comment about all that you're talking about, I'm actually still in the dark about many of the articles posted here, but if it's ok with you guys I'd like to post things that I hear too, maybe it can help fuel something from within. There are still some of us, though still young, who actually want to kneel during the consecration (again not allowed in this diocese), kneel before The Real Presence, and re-establish the Liturgy. There's a small chapel near here that celebrates the Latin Mass at 10am daily, thank God for that Jesuit priest! I agree with what one of you said about there needing to be an outcry from within the Church. I'm available for correspondence if any of you are interested in more about me, I'm definitely interested in your comments and man I have learned so much! Thank you for helping keep things in perspective for me. -BMP

When did this take place?!??

Margaret:

According to the Americans for Truth website, this happened this past Sunday. If you have a strong stomach, you can read more details and see pictures at the website:
http://americansfortruth.com/index.php
The documentary photos of the "Sisters" and Archbishop Niederauer were taken at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in the Castro by a member of the St. Joseph's Men Society, a traditional Catholic group.

Believe me, if you didn't see the pictures, you'd be hard-pressed to believe it!

Wait - you think Cardinal Mahony is going to reprimand Archbishop Niederauer? Mahony appointed "Deacon" Eric Stoltz to the Los Angeles diocese. Check out his faithful church musings on his website (which is linked to the bottom of the Archdiocese website - that HE DESIGNS, by the way) http://www.ericstoltz.com/writings/America1.html

Our church leaders are in grave danger. Pray for them!

What is amazing to me is how we have absolutely no idea the circumstances behind the Sisters attending Catholic mass - were these two Sisters of Catholic faith? If so, are they forbidden the Sacrament because they might be gay? ...or don't explicity follow the Catholic doctrine? ...or because they aren't wearing polos and sweater sets to mass?

Instead, we spit out and eat up words like, "twisted" - "perverse" - "blasphemous" - "sacriligious" --> why did they show up? Aren't they just as worthy to receive the body and blood of Christ as any of us sinners are? With no comments from the Sisters or the Archbishop or actual parishioners, what are we to say? I can't help but wonder if we are no more than a bunch of petty gossips!

If you take a look at the work that Most Holy Redeemer Church does in the community and also consider the work that the Sisters do in their community (no one seems to acknowledge either!) - I personally consider both to be beautiful, albeit non-traditional, expressions of Faith.

Not only do I admire both, but I especially admire the former, who are so readily mocked by both their brothers and sisters of Faith as well as their LGBT community just for being LGBT Catholics. Despite the criticisms, they continue to show devotion, live their faith and walk in the footsteps of Christ, serving their community! Blessed Be!

SF , What a load of crap! They mock Jesus Christ and His Church! The only devotion they show is to themeselves and their sodomite behavior. What kind of person dresses in drag like that and expects to be taken as a devoted Catholic? I will tell you a pretty screwed up mental person. I pray that is what they are! or someone who is morally posessed by Satan. In either case, the truth needs to be told and this behavior needs to be stopped. To act as bold and brazen as they do. They could care less about criticisms. SF, sounds like you participated or wished that you participated in this mockery! I blame the Archbishop for this! He needs to resign for deriliction of duty. This is demonic behavior and I will pray for all those involved.

I think Scripture should be sufficient as the final word on this travesty:

Romans 1:21-32 (NIV)

"For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them."

It is a wasted effort to argue with those who cooperate with such evil, for the very reasons that Scripture indicates. The root of the problem is a failure to love God, which leads to foolish thinking, and ultimately to depravity and death. We must continue to pray for all who are caught in this terrible trap of evil, but we must never cooperate in their destruction by giving in to a misguided sense of "tolerance".

Question-With Bishops and Cardinals obviously in line with this anti catholic anti tradition behavior-are we to be obedient to these horrible men? Is their ordination infallible? What they are proposing is clearly not Catholic and there are teachings after teachings from the first century on what must be done when one suspects corruption in the church, as the Great St Anathasius taught us in the 4th century where devout Catholics went to the country side to worship while the church's were taken over by corrupt Bishops

I therefore find it so hypocritical for the church and even Pope JPII for his excommunication of the great Archbishop Lefebvre who only wanted NOT to change anything and go along with CHANGES and gets excomminicated for ordaining Bishops who by most accounts are 1000x better than what Pope JPII ordained in his 26 year pontificate, which by the way are ALL of the present bishops and Cardinals

Food for thought

Have e-mailed the CDF at cdf@cfaith.va
Hope this gets to His Holiness and he does something to remedy this horrendous scandal
God bless the Church.
Dan

All of this dissent from the teaching of Church that we have seen in the past 40 years, San Francisco and the bishop included, might just be a punishment for sin, and while we should fight it tooth and nail we should offer up all this pain for the salvation of souls.
This really becomes a great time for virtuous heroism, as angry as it makes us.
We should live purer lives to counteract the impurity and sacrilege that we see all around us.
At the same time we must vocalize this distress to the Holy See and never, never give up the fight that Our Divine Lord asks us to battle through. For the reward.
God bless the Church

According to the comments on Gerald's page, the Pope didn't make Niederauer a bishop, he inherited him.

Send a e-mail to the CDF, send one to the Holy Father, send one to the archdiocese.

By the way, SF catholic...get real.

I can't see how anyone can reasonably believe that the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are anything but blasphemous. Their whole shtick is to mock what Catholics hold sacred. If anything, they should be regarded as a hate group. They mock and ridicule with offensive and provocative innuendo and the like, but then cry when challenged that it's only in good fun. [I'm glad to see their bingo hall lease was cancelled last November by the archdiocese.]

I will do my best to interpret the archbishop's actions with charity, but they are utterly confusing. I don't know what he's up against in that city, but only prayer and fasting will deliver it. It seems he is trying to do something, but it's all being done so slowly.
It seems bishops are too afraid to play the prophet today. Anyone out there getting a new bishop, one of the best gifts to give him besides prayer, is a copy of St. Gregory the Great's Pastoral Rule.

Does anyone know what he actually said in his homily?
The MHR parish bulletin for Oct. 14th
http://www.mhr.org/bulletin/2007/Oct142007.html
interprets his "message" in a positive and inclusive way. [NB The comment was by a woman (I think) and the ratio of men to women 323 to 81!]

Perhaps before the Mass, he had a talk with the pastor who sometime this summer seems to have been removed as archdiocesan director of ecumenical affairs.

SF Catholic,

Sometimes a person can do bad things that show very bad judgement, even if their intentions were "innoncent". Sleeping with a married person, is one example. It really doesn't matter that you "love" the person: thou shalt not commit adultery.

Coming to Mass dressed like this is a huge disrespect, whether the person wants it to be or not...whether you want it to be or not. Coming dressed like this to Mass is a major disrespect, whether the person does a lot of wonderful things or not. These people raise money by mocking Catholic nuns. Fine. But they shouldn't come to mass mocking nuns.

It really is that simple. Would you accept your genuinely good son stealing from your neighbor to give the money to the poor?

I just called the Archdiocese of San Francisco, and asked to be connected to the the Archbishops office. The person that answered the phone insisted on knowing the purpose of my call, and when I said I wanted to keep that between the Archbishop and myself I was told calls were screened(I can't imagine why) and that she needed to know the propose of my call.

I asked to speak to a secretary and subsequently got disconnected. I than called back and was told to write a letter(probably so the could properly file it in the waste basket), and then was promptly hung up on.

"Blessed Be!"

SF Catholic - pagan lesbians from the 1990s just called, they want their favorite bumper sticker back.

If any of us consider this apostate a Catholic, we need to head to the local optometrist and have our rose-colored glasses examined.

Pope Benedict XVI considers him Catholic.

I wonder how many people in your own parish are guilty of the most vile behavior against Christ but for the sake of their rather normal appearance you great them as friends and neighbors? And why should you not?

God sees through our outward appearances to the truth that's in our hearts.

What ever happened to judge not lest ye be judged?

For the actual video of this sad occurence:

I think that it is important for churches to have a plan in mind when people like these blasphemers show up.

Obviously, one doesn't want a big display but Jesus overturned the tables of the money changers when necessary.

They should be courteously but firmly shown the door. If they go shouting, the priest should ask the congregation to pray for these sinners. They certainly need it. It is sacrilegious to offer them the host. If they try to approach the altar rail and thwart the ushers then the communion distribution should stop. Again, it would be a good thing for the priest to offer a prayer for the sinners.

Again, this needs to be discussed in churches where this is possibility (and thanks given by those who don't live in the looney east and west coasts!)

...such anger...such hatred...such misunderstanding. It amazes me how no explanation is needed before you are each ready to burn these two Sisters and the MHR congregation of LGBT men and women at the stake...all because they don't fit exactly into the pretty "Catholic" picture you want to paint.

You call them a congregation of sodomites but the LGBT members there show more faith and live lives more pure than most heterosexuals I know. They have committed themselves into monogamous relationships longer than any heterosexual couple I have ever known. They have raised beautiful, educated, caring and devoted children. They give of their time, their money and their hearts and call themselves Catholics in spite of the hatred you shout and the shame and guilt you try to mar them with. That is the power of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Most Holy Spirit being present in their lives and giving them the courage and inspiration to persist day in and day out.

But you all are still collectively blinded with rage and anger. You "blog" and "comment" and still, these faithful Catholics continue to serve their community and love and praise God. Shame on us!

As for The Sisters, believe it or not...like it or not...they are nuns to their queer community. From a press release on their website (which I'm sure you all read in its entirety):

"The Sisters respect and honor all of the various paths that people use to seek the divine and experience the spiritual in an uplifting, joyous way. We are, however, very much anti-dogma, anti-guilt and anti-shame. We do not feel that it is appropriate or constructive to try and force your beliefs on others. And we think that telling other people that your way is the only way is the height of arrogance. Part of respecting other people involves being accepting and open to other peoples' perspectives and beliefs."

How beautiful! They are not anti-Catholic! They are not mocking! Geeze, I wish they were Catholic nuns! They are just unique - when did that become so wrong?

As an Anglican currently in the midst of the well-known struggle for the Episcopal Church, I wish you well. If you can do anything to stop it now, by all means do whatever it takes -- otherwise it will just grow and gradually drive out or strangle the faithful in one parish after another, then one diocese after another.

As to lex orandi, lex credendi, we believe that, too. And look what's happened to us!

God bless you all. Keep up the fight.

...such anger...such hatred...

The ploy of using the anger/hatred card is getting old. People aren't as intimidated by it as they once were.

They have raised beautiful, educated, caring and devoted children.

I hope those kids enter well paying professions. All those years of therapy will cost a fortune.

As for The Sisters, believe it or not...like it or not...they are nuns to their queer community...

Silly me, for all these years, I thought you had to be female to be a "sister" or a "nun."

SF, actually the bishop needs to burn for this mockery! Yeah! they really respect all paths except The Catholic "path". Perhaps a whole group of practicing Catholics should show up to one of their "nun" services and start chanting, Gregorian style! and after that they should start passing out Courage pamphlets. Lets see how joyous these "nuns" will be! Call yourselves something else but unique you are not! Try spirtually possessed. They look so evil in their makeup and garb. My child saw them and said thats creepy!!! This parish is no longer Catholic!

SF-

You bopped over to my blog and left the b-s type of comment.

Nuns or sisters if you did not know are woman. They are not men dressing up pretending to be woman!

You call them a congregation of sodomites but the LGBT members there show more faith and live lives more pure than most heterosexuals I know.

They are sodomites...look up the word.

They have raised beautiful, educated, caring and devoted children.

Poor kids, I can imagine all the therapy they will have to endure.
I mean seeing these Misters pretending to be woman, gosh that is gonna screw up alot of kids!

They give of their time, their money and their hearts and call themselves Catholics in spite of the hatred you shout and the shame and guilt you try to mar them with.

Catholics? Oh please!
Lets not even go there!

That is the power of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Most Holy Spirit being present in their lives and giving them the courage and inspiration to persist day in and day out.

You are mistaken, that is not Jesus orthe Holy Spirit but SATAN!
Crack open your CCC or Bible and see just what Jesus has to say about homosexuals.

Though I am appalled by the appearance of the "Sisters" at a church for the sole purpose of disrupting the mass and mocking the Catholic faith, in a way I am glad that this happened. I hope that this is a wake-up call for people to finally see the state of depravity that has permeated our country, and to realize the level of enmity some groups have for Christians as a whole.

I find it very telling that this was not covered by any of the main-stream media organizations (except for FOX). This should make it very clear with whom the media sides, and it is not Catholics!

"As for The Sisters, believe it or not...like it or not...they are nuns to their queer community."

hmmm... What aspect of the definition of nun could they be understood to actually be living up to?

Poverty?
Chastity?
Obedience?
Living in community?**

**Piling in the same bed for the night, doesn't count.
