Amy

You wasted a lot of precious time involving me in this post because my point was exactly the opposite of what you are suggesting I was saying.

I was saying Chaput was essentially correct and that those who want to dismiss him as saying "huh, what could one vote matter" are like my students who want to deal with things reductively and simplistically in order to justify their sin.

And if I was garbled, I apologize. But I do strenuously object to being made the object of a post which mischaracterizes what I said in such a dramatic, 180 kind of way.

What is your position regarding a potential Clinton vs. Guiliani contest?

Thomistic

My position is that talking about Clinton vs. Giuliani creates an unnecessary illusion of Giuliani's inevitability.

It also seeks to force social conservatives to reassure everyone in the GOP that all won't be lost if they foolishly nominate Giuliani.

I don't want to give Republicans the impression that they can feel secure that electing Giuliani (and thereby marginalizing social conservatives) they risk nothing, and can therefore do it without any fear.

Pax,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts in that last post. You have a talent for making a hard subject clear to others. I enjoy reading the posts from a guy who has the same flair for explaining things.
