Fred Ain't Dead

Who actually did raise their hands? See: Show of hands on the climate change question: Who was for it before they were against it?

Here's the story: Fred Ain't Dead

Quote:

With his superb performance in Wednesday's debate in Iowa, Fred Thompson has made a monkey out of me. By early afternoon on Tuesday, the column that appears below, one which posits that Thompson's presidential campaign might still find a way to win, was ready in exactly the form it appears here. But I thought the column would still remain exactly on target throughout the week, so (for various reasons) I aimed for a Friday release. At the time, I thought that until Thompson began his Iowa bus tour on Monday the 17th, my contention that he "ain't dead" yet would seem noteworthy for its boldness.

Then Thompson ruined it all by so clearly running away with the laurels in Wednesday's debate -- and in particularly Reaganesque fashion. Just as Reagan did at the famous Nashua, N.H. debate in 1980, Thompson used the unfairness of the debate moderator as a foil in a way that justly earned the candidate plaudits as a no-nonsense kind of guy. Now everybody is taking a second look at Thompson's chances. Deservedly so.

But of course a debate performance like that should not have been a surprise. As my column reports, pollster Frank Luntz said even before Wednesday's debates that Thompson was hitting his stride and connecting with audiences at earlier debates.

...

Just as pundits, myself included, were having a high old time criticizing Sen. Thompson for the timing of his efforts in this campaign, he somehow succeeded in stealing a march on us. Maybe Good Ol' Fred knows what he is doing after all.

Quote:

We apologize for pointing out that in 2002 Huckabee wrote Pres. Bush a letter asking him to lift the Cuban embargo. It’s easy to see how Huckabee might have missed the finer points of a 40-year embargo. While he obviously knew enough about the embargo to ask that it be lifted, Huckabee clearly didn’t know enough to ask that it not be lifted. So for that, we’re sorry.

A show of hands????!!!!!!!!!!!!Wow. What will the liberal femi-nazis have them do next, play duck, duck goose?
Great video of Regan for comparison. Real men.

Huckstabee would be a disaster for the Republican party. Has anyone noticed how Hilary, Pelosi, and NOW haven't commented on Hukstabee's signing the declaration that women should "gracefully submit" to their husbands?

Now, I have no problem with that verse, especially if you read the rest of it for context, but does anyone think for a moment that the women of gloom and doom are quiet for no reason?

Sounds like a Dem. strategy to me. They sure are quick to jump on Rudy and Mitt for their positions. Why the silence here? And why all the MSM love gushing toward the most unlikely of baptist ministers? Since when did the MSM fall in love with religious ministers who speak so freely about religion? Remember the venom over Bush's relgious comments eight years ago?

Sometimes what people don't say is just as important as what they do say.

Jimbo,

That is a great point. Silence is only golden when it will advance the Dem. strategy.

Also, Dennis Miller said that it is just not acceptable to have the name "HUCKABEE" as a president. It just does not fly well off the tongue. Dennis Miller said that a President "HUCKABEE" is like having a President "QUICK DRAW McGRAW".

...and now that he is taking the environmental angle, I'll have to rename him Hugatree.

This guy has too many name derivatives to be president.

It's frustrating that the most religiously conservative candidate comes off as ridiculous the way he says his one liners. Some call it great communicating (a la Reagan, yes, some newspaper suggested that) but I think it is harmful to the socially conservative cause.
I'm glad Huckabee is willing to call homosexuality immoral, and also to say that a woman ought to submit to her husband the way the Church submits to Christ.
Unfortunately, that doesn't make him prepared to be president (although good personal morals are very important). He relies too much on the nanny state to get things done. Conservatives should not be voting for bigger government!
I think this is generally a Protestant flaw, and I think it stems from lack of a real capital "C" Church like Catholics have.
LOL on the Quick Draw McGraw. :-P
