Influential nun calls for 'non-violent resistance' against Vatican apostolic visitation

Mar. 4, 2009 (CWNews.com) -

An influential American nun has called for "non-violent resistance" against a Vatican investigation of women's religious orders. In an email message to colleagues that has now been published by the National Catholic Reporter, Sister Sandra Schneiders, who teaches at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California, says that the apostolic visitation recently announced by the Vatican will be "aggressive and dishonest." She acknowledges that American religious orders cannot prevent the Vatican inquiry. However, she recommends:

But we can receive them, politely and kindly, for what they are, uninvited guests who should be received in the parlor, not given the run of the house. When people ask questions they shouldn't ask, the questions should be answered accordingly.

Sister Schneiders, a members of the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Hear of Mary, argues that most women's religious orders have found an entirely new way of living their vocations since Vatican II. "So, let's be what we are," she writes: "Religious who are not cloistered and ministers who are not ordained." She rejects criticism that was aired last year at a seminar held at Stonehill College, at which Cardinal Franc Rodé-- the prefect of the Congregation for Religious-- warned that some orders seemed to "have simply acquiesced to the disappearance of religious life or at least of their communities." That conference, Sister Schneiders said, was "a pep rally for those convinced they are right and can only be right if people not like them are wrong."

A Good First Step: Archbishop Chaput Corrects Senator Biden On Abortion

Chaput

Here's the link: Archbishop Chaput Corrects Senator Biden on Abortion

My thoughts:

This is good, but the fundamental problem is with Catholics thinking that remaining within a political party that supports abortion as a civil right and attempting to dismiss this fact by pointing to conservative support for things like specific wars (or war in general) or the death penalty neutralizes the scandal involved in belonging to such a group is a moral option.

When will Church leaders tell Catholics that it's as wrong to belong to organizations that support the culture of death, most notably through support for the legal option to kill preborn babies, as it is to belong to a Masonic lodge?

And when will so-called Catholic politicians who support legal abortion be told, without equivocation, by all bishops (including the Holy Father) that, by supporting the culture of death, these so-called Catholic politicians are not in union with Rome, may not receive Holy Communion, and will be excommunicated if they persist in supporting legal abortion?

Any thoughts?

Partisan Pastor?

Archbishopchaput_3

Archbishop Charles Chaput has been very open about his commitment to the Democrat party, even going so far as to admit having voted for, and even having worked for pro-abortion candidates.

A recent article by Catholic author, Barbara Kralis, brought attention to the issue: Will Denver Catholic Archbishop finally enforce Canon 915?

Archbishop Charles Chaput's history has troubled many of the faithful, and some of them have attempted to encourage the archbishop to exercise his duty to teach, govern, and sanctify by denying pro-abortion politicians (regardless of political affiliation) access to the Holy Eucharist.

More after the jump...

Utter Drivel

If you have been following the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis/St.Paul as I have, perhaps you too have noticed the total absence of "fair" reporting.

Scalp4

Ninety-Nine percent 99% of the media are on the warpath, and determined to add Sarah Palin's scalp to the pole in front of their tepee or wigwam!

The latest example of absolute drivel, even before the revelations of her daughter's pregnancy, comes from CNN anchor John Roberts.

John_roberts

His quote:

"There's also this issue that on April 18th, she gave birth to a baby with Down's Syndrome.... Children with Down's syndrome require an awful lot of attention. The role of Vice President, it seems to me, would take up an awful lot of her time, and it raises the issue of how much time will she have to dedicate to her newborn child?"

So Sarah Palin is unqualified to be Vice-President because it will leave her insufficient time to care for her Down's Syndrome baby? This when Roberts and the rest of his pro-death cabal would have aborted such an infant in the blinking of an eye!

Palin_baby

I have actually taken extra antacid while watching this coverage. Gads!

God save our Republic!

"Thrown Away and Withering"

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. John 15: 5-8

"Ego sum vitis, vos palmites: qui manet in me, et ego in eo, hic fert fructum multum, quia sine me nihil potestis facere. Si quis in me non manserit, mittetur foras sicut palmes, et arescet, et colligent eum, et in ignem mittent, et ardet. Si manseritis in me, et verba mea in vobis manserint, quodcumque volueritis petetis, et fiet vobis. In hoc clarificatus est Pater meus, ut fructum plurimum afferatis, et efficiamini mei discipuli. - Johannes 15:5-8

Liz

Why is this woman smiling? Her particular religious order, and those who share her heretical views, are withering.

See the interesting article from John Allen - the neo-modernist mouthpiece at the National Catholic Reporter.

He reports on the address of Sr. Elizabeth A. Johnson, CSJ before the joint assembly of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious and the Conference of Major Superiors of Men, described in the article as "the main umbrella groups for women’s and men’s orders in the United States."

This is a bit of a misnomer as the LCWR and the CMSM do represent mostly those orders with the most institutional wealth, but also mostly those orders that are gratefully dying as you read this.

The full article can be seen at: http://ncronline3.org/drupal/?q=node/1551

Her are some excerpts:

"The entrenched clerical system of patriarchal power, in addition to creating conditions in which the sex abuse scandal could occur, has also at times been deeply suspicious of the charism of religious life and where it would lead the church. I think of the Jesuits and justice, of the option of so many women’s religious orders for a collegial style of leadership and obedience, etc."

"We in this Catholic church continue to live by patriarchal values that, by any objective measure, relegate women to second-class status governed by male-dominated structures, law, and ritual,"

Devil2

And here is her heresy "par Excellence," as partially summarized by John Allen:

"Johnson argued for seeing the Cross not "as a death required by God in repayment for sin," but rather "as an event of divine love" and as the price paid by Jesus for his ministry — a price, she said, still sometimes paid today by religious women and men in different parts of the world.

"Jesus did not come to die but to live," Johnson said, "and to help others live in the joy of divine love."

Her full speech can be found at:

While I am confident that in time the religious orders of Sr. Elizabeth’s ilk will pass like the dodo...

Dodo

the institutional wealth they possess makes them far more dangerous than their numbers would suggest.

For "real" religious orders look to the "Institute on Religious Life," comprised of most of the most orthodox, and fast growing, communities of priests and religious in the United States.

Damnable Dowager of Doublespeak

More nonsense related to the misuse and abuse of the English language!

Hill

Senator Hillary Clinton opines at the Huffington post that the Bush administration is trying to ban contraception by calling it abortion.

See:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/hillary-clinton/an-outrageous-attempt-by_b_114064.html

In part her post reads:

"The Bush administration is up to its old tricks again, quietly putting ideology before science and women's health. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is poised to put in place new barriers to accessing common forms of contraception like birth control pills, emergency contraception and IUDs by labeling them "abortion." "

Giottoinnocents

Senator Clinton, vile defender of the massacre of innocent children that you are, buy a dictionary!

Main Entry: abor·ti·fa·cient

Pronunciation: \ə-ˌbr-tə-ˈfā-shənt\

Function: noun

Date: 1873

: an agent (as a drug) that induces abortion

abortifacient adjective

___________________

If one defines pregnancy, like life, as starting at conception, there is a huge difference between a pill that PREVENTS conception and an abortifacient.

The Bush Administration is opposed to the funding of abortifacients.
