Build a Traditional Catholic Church and they will come. The nuns will come to a Traditional Catholic Church.

Mark

Its true. I have come to realize in the last few months that there is no one more beautiful than a sister or nun in her habit. Especially on those infrequent occasions at Mass when I see one of Mother Theresa's sisters in their blue and white habits, or more frequently (but not frequent enough) when I see others from other orders, I am so humbled and thankful to see them.

sure america needs nuns ,but after what happened to the nuns following vatican 2 .i wonder if america would be better off without nuns.considering it seems like the sisters took off their habits and began shouting the feminist mantra.

Bill Hennessy

Hey, thanks for the kind words. I don't think you got a trackback, so I'll make one manually.

I did want to say, though, that I am aware of the feminazi nuns out there. They're not the ones I'm speaking of. I see more and more nuns in habits with their tinkling rosaries worn proudly and visibly. I can't help but to smile.

Yes, America needs nuns--real nuns. Nuns you can spot a mile away because of their dress and their grace. Nuns who will walk up to a stranger on the street and tell him to put a shirt on, he's embarrassing himself and his mother. (Oh, how I miss Sr. Mary Mark.)

And I miss Sister Catherine Ann, Sister Mary Richards and Sister Theonella. They whipped me good but nearly 50 years later....I want to thank them!...and I am praying for their souls!

You can hear some really good traditional nuns singing studio quality Church songs at www.WFTSradio.com They are called "The Daughters of Mary" from Roundtop, New York. They have a website www.sjnovitiate.org ....if you live anywhere near Roundtop it's worth the drive to see them.

You can also find another set of traditional nuns at:

www.cmri.org/sisters.htm

They also sing professionally.

Like I said: "Build a Traditional Catholic Church with a REAL Tridentine Mass.....and they will come"

If you want to see a young vibrant community, visit the Nashville Dominicans of St. Cecelia website. http://www.nashvilledominican.org

"I say: rejoice to be witnesses to Christ in the modern world. Do not hesitate to be recognizable, identifiable in the streets as men and women who have consecrated their lives to God and who have given up everything worldly to follow Christ. Believe that contemporary men and women set value on the visible signs of the consecration of your lives. People need signs and reminders of God in the modern secular city, which has few reminders of God left. So do not help the trend towards 'taking God off the streets' by adapting secular modes of dress and behavior yourselves!" Pope John Paul II

Thank you for that beautiful reflection on religious life. There's hope for America yet. And yes, girls today are still searching to serve the Lord...in fact, I am going to be a nun--a real nun in habit and rosary, a symbol of God's presence in the world. Rejoice for the Lord!

Amanda

yes!! I'm not the only one who feels that this world needs more visible signs of God's presence!! I am considering being a nun and one of my worries is finding an order who still wears the habit proudly!! And not the "modified habit", but those that are true to the Church's teaching! Here is the order I will be visiting in March. http://www.carmelitegeneralate.homestead.com/Index.html

I agree that we need more women to join religious orders. Historically, I do not remember why alot of the sisters left their orders or that there are no new candidates.
I for one grew up with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Philadelphia and their dwindled numbers alarmed me. What happened? Was it the changes brought about by Vatican II?
I hope there is a reversal of vacations in this country, and more women are called to the sisterhood.

Simon Stock

Yeah and bring back the Model-T Ford too !
Of course nuns all dressed up in mediaeval garb are cute - but get real, what has the dress of the middle ages in Europe to do with a commitment to Christ?
I know many good modern sisters who dress simply and elegantly and proclaim Christ very effectively.
This is more of that back to the furure nonsense.

Jane

The Bible does not say anything about becoming a nun or a monk!If only Catholics would study/or at least read/ their Bibles regulally!Even a child can understand it/for such is the kingdom of heaven!/.Christ in your heart and real, personal relationship with Him - that's what you need to have a peace in your heart & real spiritual fullfillment.Read your Bible, see if Christ gives you an instruction in His Holy Word for you to become a nun, you'll find none...He says:Go in to the WORLD & preach the Gospel!Behind the convent walls you'll never be able to do this...Please,please read the Word of God!May the Holy Spirit illuminate your path!Christ is the way,the truth and the life,no one comes to the Father EXCEPT thru Him!

Atlanta Catholic

God Bless you Jane! Read the Word of God and you will find that God never instructed anyone to name their daughter Jane, but guess what Jane...you are here and so are the nuns. Read about the early Church Fathers Jane. Which Church resembles the writings of the early church Fathers? Once you understand this, then you will understand why there are nuns.

Fr. Deacon Tony

YES,I REMEMBER THE GREAT EXIT OF NUNS AFTER THE 70'S. IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THE ORTHODOX CHURCH IS THE ONE WHO HAS HELD ON TO AND REMAINS THE SAME.
YOU THAT WANTED CHANGE SO MUCH, SOUNDS LIKE A PROTESTING RELIGION. YES THATS WHERE THE NAME PROTESTANT COMES FROM ,PROTESTING AGAIST THE 1 HOLY CATHOLIC APASTOLIC CHURCH.

thom nickels

Build a traditional Catholic Church with a high altar and classic iconography, and you will get your nuns. This Novus Ordo Protestant stuff does NOT attract religious vocations at all! Many Catholics are converting to Eastern Orthodoxy because of the state of the western Catholic Church (Protestantized). Benedict XVI is attempting to rebuild the RUINED Catholic Church, but it is a longshot.
