H/T to Unam Sanctam for hipping me to this story:
Teachers at one of metro Detroit's most famous Catholic schools, Bishop Borgess High School in Redford Township, are making a new name for themselves by cutting Catholic ties and reopening as a new kind of Christian academy
The culprits? You guessed it: progressive nuns -- Immaculate Heart of Mary sisters to be precise, led by school principal Sr. Joan Charnley.
Sister Joan told the Detroit Free Press, "I think we're the first to go this route." One can almost sense the pride in Sr. Joan's voice, since progressive nuns pout such emphasis on being the first to go any route, regardless of whether the route actually leads anywhere Catholic.
The article continues:
On Tuesday, the religious transformation of the school was in progress. Chalices and other items used in Masses had been removed from the chapel.
Gloriaski! How can a Catholic (so to speak) nun, of all people, preside over such a de-Catholicization?
"We'll start fresh," Charnley said. "We're appealing to continue playing in the Catholic League as Covenant."
Glad you have your priroties in place, Sister Joan.
As Unam Sanctam proprietor Rick Lugari so aptly put it:
Sister Joan is an IHM; big surprise, huh? What is surprising however, is that when they dropped their 'Catholic' identity, they chose to go with 'Christian'. Knowing the IHMs [of Monroe, MI], I would have expected the new name to be much more generic with a distinct pagan flavor to it; something along the lines of The Four Winds Spiritual Academy would be about right.
Don't give Sister Joan any ideas, Rick.
I had IHM's in parochial school in the 60's and they were nothing like this. :P

True enough, Tony. That was before they were wrecked from within. One of my aunts was an IHM nun, but left in the carnage that followed the IHM wreckers decision to throw down with Cardinal McIntyre.
