Publishing this blog has been a very education experience. I've learned a great deal about my Church that I did not know only a few months ago.
For example, an e-mail I received several days ago from a fellow named Stephen Ryan made me aware of a Catholic movement of which I was previously unaware: Miles Jesu, or "Soldier of Christ." I've been noodling around the MJ website and that of its affiliated Path To Rome and Continuity.
It's heartening to know there are so many dedicated, orthodox Catholics -- clergy and laity alike -- working everyday to restore this Church Militant. They are an inspiration to a Joe Catholic like myself who needs frequent reminders about why God made me as I all too easily become consumed with earning a living, supporting my family, and paying the mortgage, tuitions, etc.
For example, I spotted this gem from the President of Continuity, former Anglican Bishop of London, now Catholic, the Rt. Rev. and Rt. Hon. Msgr. Graham Leonard, KCVO:
Recently, at a regional Continuity Conference, the members discussed why more people don’t come into the Church. The general consensus was that many non-Catholics, perhaps, have rarely or never met a Catholic who is deeply loyal to the Catholic Church and the Holy Father, and dedicated to growing in personal holiness and in knowledge of the Catholic Faith. Such a Catholic should be enthusiastic to share that Faith with others and well read in the history of the Roman Catholic Church and familiar with the lives of their Saints. Such a Catholic would live as an example of the Catholic Faith in practice—at home, at work—everywhere. The Continuity Movement, in developing such members, will effectively answer this need. We see this as the most effective means to bring about the conversion and evangelization of America, Britain and Europe.
It men (and women) of faith like Msgr. Leonard and Mr. Ryan who help remind guys like me how we need to be that deeply loyal Catholic.
Here's a link to Continuity Journal, of which Stephen Ryan is editor. It's only 8 pages, but a nourishing read.
We've come to know Miles Jesu in Illinois as our daughter goes to their summer camp in Dixon. They are quite focused on Orthodox Catholicism and very authentic. Definitely a good group from what we've seen!

I just blogged about a new religious order, begun by Bishop Raymond Burke in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. The order has moved with Burke to St. Louis. While the order is clerical, it is igniting some of the laity through its intellectual, theological approach to tradition, including the Latin Mass.
