Cantate Domino

In his book, "One Flew Over the Onion Dome", Eastern Orthodox priest,Father Joseph David Huneycutt, quotes this joke:

The Anglican Bishopess is led into the church by half-dressed liturgical dancers and altar girls. She bears statues of Buddha and and various Hindi deities. The congregation sings Hare Krishna songs. The Bishopess places the statues on the altar and turns to the congregation and invokes the Mother Goddess. In the pews, one old guy turns to his pal and says, "Harry, I tell you one more thing like this and I'm outta here!"

Devils and witches? How far do things have to go?

Email Maria at nuntiususa@nuntiususa.org.
or call her at 202-333-7121. Send this email to everyone you know. Let the bishops know how upset we are and how committed we are in our defense of the Real Presence.

Maybe we should make a copy of this and send it to every single bishop and to every single Curia official.

Overwhelm them or else they might file it and forget about this terrible act.

We must protect our Eucharistic Jesus and stop these type of people from trying to destroy the Sacred Liturgy.

What a glorious day it must have been in hell: watching the Eucharsitic Ministers and lectors dressed up in evil characters as they proclaimed the Word of God and distributed Holy Communion. Imagine "Count Dracula offering the Precious Blood of Christ." It is so offensive to beleive that something like this could even occur. How disrespectful and outrageous this act of horror.

And they wodner why Catholics prefer the old Rite.

Didn't anyone learn the lesson from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" movie? The sacred and the silly don't mix. I enjoy Halloween, Harry Potter, dressing up, etc., but that doesn't belong at the worship service of the Catholic community. An "All Saints" mass with saint costumes would have been more appropriate. I felt like I was watching a horror flick with a corruption of Holy Mass.

Father Bailey looks like a toad to me or is it just the video?

Parishioner

How sad you all are. You are judging a parish and priest on a video clip. Should you be judging others? I am a parishioner at Corpus Christi and was at this wonderful mass. It was no different then your mass except for the costumes and humor. Did you miss the humor? Our priest is a wonderful catholic priest. You love him or you don't. What you all are taking so offensively was simply done in fun. Not the kind of fun to blasphemy our religion but the kind of fun to simply engage our parishioners. I am sorry you have lost your inner child to see my point of view.
How dare you condemn our priest when you are the same individuals who dress your children in ghoulish costumes and parade them via trick or treating for free candy! Our parish serves a niche in the Catholic Community that serves our beliefs, religion, and needs. Yes, it is a Catholic Community as well. We also have the same beliefs as other catholic communities. Unfortunately, this mass offended you. But I am not going to judge you or your parish priest. I love and stand by our priest and Corpus Christi in Aliso Viejo (get the name right) and get a life!

Bonnie, do you NOT understand the difference between the sacrifice of Holy Mass and Halloween activities with your children?

Where in the rubrics does it say the Celebrant tells jokes? What sort of vestments are Satan & Barney costumes?

That you see nothing wrong with a "Halloween Mass" indicates that you are in trouble.

"Is nothing sacred?" At least Holy Mass should be.

Appologies to Bonnie -- I should have addressed my comment to "Parishoner".

Mea maxima culpa (strikes breast),

Dear Parishioner, When you are at Mass you are at Calvary! It is not" "entertainment"! As for my inner child I would have felt very scared to see devils giving me Holy Communion! The priest dressed as Barney would have freaked me out as well! let alone witches and dracula there! If you are fine with this behavior , you have a serious lack of knowledge of who Jesus Christ is and His Church. I am in no way trying to be mean. I don't blame you for it, I blame priests like Fr. Bailey and Bishops like Bishop Tod Brown for it. They and their commrads have succeded in spiritual abusing several generations. Some people realize it and get educated back into the Catholic Church. Some people sad to say, have stockholm condition and they themselves go and spiritualy abuse others. Parishioner, here are some Catholic websites to help you find out what The Catholic Church Teaches EWTN, Ignatius Press, St. Joseph Communications, for The liturgy I would suggest Adoremus Society , but first read the GIRM (General Instructin of The Roman Missal) Liturgicam Authenticum would be great for you to read and ask Fr. Bailey and Bishop Tod Brown to read it as well and put into practice, but some how I feel Fr. Bailey and Bishop Tod Brown could give a rats behind about it. Please parishioner check out the websites, open your mind to new horizions , fresh waters to drink from!

Suffering in O.C.

Parishioner, I see nothing wrong with your pastor engaging in this kind of activity outside of Mass and outside of the church. Perhaps he could do it in the parking lot or in the hall, if you have a hall but NOT in the church. And may I suggest dressing up like saints and not devils and witches.

judging by your comments and your defense of Fr. Bailey I would say that don't know what is appropriate at Holy Mass. I would venture to say that you're probably getting alot of peace and social justice homilies but not much else. "I love you, you love me, we're a happy family and you can sin all you want and do whatever you want don't ever change we love you just the way you are" and The Barney costume says alot.

Suffering in O.C.

Parishioner, If the bishop tells Fr. Bailey to stop these unholy Halloween Masses will you then believe they shouldn't have ever been allowed in the first place or will you just be mad that your fun and entertainment was spoiled?

And so goes the defilement of the Mass. It began in 1962, was evident in the blasphemies at Assisi and now extend into the parishes.

As a Catholic, in order to be Catholic, you must believe in Transubstantiation. This is a dogma, it is not up for debate. To not believe in it is to not be Catholic.

If the Priest truly believed that Christ's own body and blood are present at every Mass, how would he allow such a thing as this, much less participate?

Suffice to say no valid Mass was held there that night. The blashpemy and sacriligeous nature of those acts prevented a true Consecration or the presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

The Mass is not a social gathering, a meal or merely a symbolic act. Rather it is the conerstone of Faith, a reminder and continuation of Calvary and our redemption, and finally the pinnacle of our earthly Communion with God.

Return to the true Mass, Return to Christ.

Concerned

Please do not stereotype every parish in the Diocese of Orange based on the abuses at this one parish. This is ONE parish in the diocese. I live in the Diocese of Orange and have friends and relations in many of the parishes, and I am unaware of anything even remotely similar happening anywhere else. It's fine to speak out against these abuses, but don't mislead people who read these blogs by making generalizations that lead people to believe this problem is characteristic of all the parishes in the diocese.

Galloglass Warrior

I liked all the costumes....especially the guy in the priest costume.

Suffering in O.C.

Dear Concerned,

I suggest you attend Mass at a different parish every Sunday and then when you're all done report back to us on your findings. Try the parishes in the mostly white middle/upper class demographic areas and you will find that teenagers are still standing around the altars during the consecration and the that the main focus of the homilies are mostly on peace and social justice. What you won't be hearing about are the evils of abortion, contraception, active homosexuality or anything about homosexuality. You will find that most of these parishes have a whole brigade of Extraordinary Ministers even when there isn't an extraordinary circumstance hence the name. You will also probably see glassware being used to hold the precious blood and baskets holding the body of our Lord even though many of these parishes have way above the means to afford better.

Here's a radio commercial, inspired by the video:

Enjoy!

PS: to "Parishioner" - I have some bad news for you: you were obviously taught religion by the wrong people if you think that kind of messing around at Holy Mass is OK. I too have a sense of humor, but not at the expense of the Blessed Sacrament.

nunyabiznis

Whoe to those who would lead His flock away from the Shepherd.

nunyabiznis

Spelling Error: Should be "Woe" not "Whoe". Thank You.

Peter Valane

We must double our prayers and sacrifices in atonement for this abuse. Terrible. But, there must have been people in the parish who knew this was wrong and are suffering because of it.

Bill G

Uggh...thank God I am in a diocese that would not tolerate this kind of nonsense. You go to Protestant youth conferences and they talk about doing things like Stations of the Cross and other things that should be part of our practice, but instead we throw them out for this kind of goofiness -- and that is, of course, being kind about it.

Bill G

Bonnie:

Let's parse some of your words:

"How sad you all are. You are judging a parish and priest on a video clip. Should you be judging others?"

When Jesus said 'Don't don't', this should not be taken out of the context of all the other times he talks about warning those who fall into sin (as does St. Paul) -- saving a brother/sister.

"I am a parishioner at Corpus Christi and was at this wonderful mass. It was no different then your mass except for the costumes and humor."

Huh? Yes, Jesus was present, and how sad he was to be there.

"Did you miss the humor?"

Yes, we did. Mass as entertainment????

"Our priest is a wonderful catholic priest. You love him or you don't."

We love him and you and that is why we are warning you -- now you have been warned. You can't say, "But no one ever told me so!"

"What you all are taking so offensively was simply done in fun. Not the kind of fun to blasphemy our religion but the kind of fun to simply engage our parishioners. I am sorry you have lost your inner child to see my point of view."

Inner child? Looks like you have been spending too much time in the New Age and Psychology section at Borders.

"How dare you condemn our priest when you are the same individuals who dress your children in ghoulish costumes and parade them via trick or treating for free candy!"

Not my 4 boys. Anyhow, walking down the street is different than standing before the altar of God in a Church.

"Our parish serves a niche in the Catholic Community that serves our beliefs, religion, and needs."

Bonnie, they are not YOUR beliefs. That's one of the cool things about being Catholic...they aren't my beliefs, or your beliefs, they are the creedal beliefs of the Church that we adhere to. I didn't make up the beliefs of our Church, nor did you. Study them and follow them.

"Yes, it is a Catholic Community as well. We also have the same beliefs as other catholic communities."

Apparently not. Jesus founded the Catholic Church, not the Catholic Communities.

"Unfortunately, this mass offended you. But I am not going to judge you or your parish priest. I love and stand by our priest and Corpus Christi in Aliso Viejo (get the name right) and get a life!"

It does to many, many people, Bonnie. Maybe as a supposedly faithful Catholic you should take pause and think about how this Mass meshes with the 2000 year tradition of the universal Church, eh? I have a great life by the way. Beautiful wife, great job teaching and four beautiful boys. Thanks for asking :)

The Catholic Church is slowy being destroyed from within by priest, and Bishops like Tod Brown and his buddy Cardinal Mahoney. Our Blessed Mother warns us to get back to the basics. If one visits the internet and keys in Our Blessed Mother's name you can read of her warnings. That is of course you believe. And I'm a believer!!

Have you ever wondered why Bishop Tod Brown is supportive of gay rights???????? Doesn't this kind of tell you something?

believer

Wow. After watching this video and reading all of your comments, I can't help but notice something.
Look at all of those smiling and happy faces. It is a sin that you people condemn him for bringing happiness into this world instead of the hate you bring.

With the advent of Summorum Pontificum and the returning of the Classic Catholic liturgy often referred to as the Tridentine Mass or Latin mass which after a run of 2000 years and started by Jesus Christ himself was literally banished, denigrated and denounced by protestantized Catholics in a deluded and shrinking church,,,, wham it's back with a revenge after 40 years in the wilderness thanks to Pope paul 6, the freemason annabale bugnini (inventor of the novus ordo service) aka venacular modern mass. And the clarions call to a return to the ancient mass the latin liturgy is being heard by literally millions of Catholics worldwide, particularly, Catholic youth and converts. With the return of the Classic latin Mass the death throws of the novus ordo missae are a matter of time, even here in tod browns orange county and mahoneys LA.

Caro

You wonder why REAL ROMAN CATHOLICS don't
