French cardinal promises more talks on traditional Mass
Nov. 08 (CWNews.com) - The president of the French bishops' conference has said that discussions of a papal initiative to broaden use of the traditional Latin Mass has "taken on unreal proportions." But Cardinal Paul Ricard has repated that the rumored papal document is not ready for release.
Speaking to reporters after the conclusion of the French bishops' meeting at Lourdes, Cardinal Ricard said that "various consultations" will be made by Vatican officials before the release of a new papal document on the traditional liturgy. "We can communicate our fears and hopes," he had already promised his fellow French bishops.
Cardinal Ricard told reporter that the Ecclesia Dei commission, of which he is a member, will have an opportunity to review the proposed motu proprio which which the Pope would free up use of the traditional liturgy. Consultations on that document will begin in Rome soon, he suggested.

Very interesting. I wonder when the document will come out?

Fears? Why should he have any fears about the Latin Mass?

I fear the Holy Father is making a mistake by allowing this to become a public controversy. He should simply act and let the French bishops grumble all they want.
The French Church has always suffered delusions of grandeur, acting as a church-within-the-church ever since that silly "Gallican" movement in the 17th century. But it's time to wake up and smell the espresso. Louis XIV is long gone and the French church today resembles nothing so much as a great big head with no body. Its churches and seminaries are empty and echoing. The SSPX is thriving.
Complaints from the French church (and those in the rest of the world for whom they speak) should be listened to - and then ignored.

Talks?
Why? The Pope says it, you obey or find yourself in schism. Works BOTH ways.
What is wrong with these heterodox leftists in the Church? Have they not done enough damage to the Body of Christ?

It is more complicated in my humble opinion. Such a decision would have a strong political meaning in France where traditionalists are often linked with far right movements inspired by Charles Maurras. It is clear nevertheless that they must obey to the Pope, even if they do not approve his decision but I am sure that they will do. By the way, if some French bishops are again inspired by Gallicism, who is nowadays inspired by Jansenism in France? However, Cardinal Ricard and other leaders of the Catholic Church in France like the archbishop of Paris and the archbishop of Lyon are used to “deal” with traditionalists, some French bishops are a little afraid about this movement. It is a natural thing to talk about this fear, even with the Pope.

His Holliness Pope Benedikt XVI has stated clearly that the Church is Catholic i.e.it comprises not only the post Vatican II but all the Church from the 1st Century A.D.through all the Centuries up to the present time. All the previous Ecumenical Councils and Traditional Missals and Breviaries are part of the Catholic Christian Inheritance and cannot be abolished. The Missal of Pius V and Breviary is a Classic like Virgil s Aenid and Homer s Iliad. The Russians still use the old Classic Church Slavonic and the Greeks the old Classic Church Greek and their Churches are full.I always read a Missal of 1947 in Latin with english translation pararell to it,with Historical and Liturgical explanations at each Season and I am greatly blessed.I read also a Little Office of the B.V.Mary I found, Dominican, in Latin and paralell english with beautiful Latin Hymns.

Barnej -
Interesting for you to note the "SSPX is thriving". Why even look that far? The FSSP and the French Abbeys are doing better still.

Institut Sainte-Croix de Riaumont (Diocese of Ars, France). The Institute of the Holy Cross of Riaumont was founded in 1971 and approved by the Holy See in 1991. It is an apostolate for the traditional scouting movement in France and includes several priests and brothers.
Superior: The Rev. Jean-Paul d'Arghouac
Opus Mariæ Mediatricis (O.M.M.) Opus Mariæ Mediatricis was founded by the indefatigable Fr. William Ashely. It works and prays for dogmatic definitions that Our Blessed Mother is the Mediatrix of All Graces and Co-Redemptrix of Mankind. This is holy work indeed. Fr. Ashely is also directing this Opus to the promotion of the traditional Latin Mass. His society should not be confused with the order of traditionalist Augustinians in France (which is known simply as Opus Mariæ). In 2000, Fr. Ashley commenced plans to move the Opus to the Diocese of Lincoln, Nebraska (U.S.A.).
Benedictine Abbey of Ste. Madeleine at Le Barroux (Diocese of Avignon, France). This abbey was founded by Dom Gérard Calvet, who is certainly one of the pillars of the traditionalist movement worldwide. He arrived at an abandoned monastery in 1970 as a lone monk seeking the preservation of the traditional Benedictine Rule. He soon had numerous followers and they moved into a new building at Le Barroux in 1978. Until 1988, these monks were affiliated with Archbishop Lefebvre's Society of St. Pius X but, when His Grace consecrated four priests to the episcopate without papal mandate, Dom Calvet sought the approval of the Holy See for a new Benedictine foundation. The Holy Father granted the request and raised the monastery to an abbey in 1989. There are now more than sixty monks and an affiliated convent of Benedictine nuns nearby.
Benedictine Abbey of Our Lady of the Assumption at Le Barroux (Diocese of Avignon, France). This is the convent of nuns which is affiliated with the foregoing Benedictine Abbey of Ste. Madeleine. It was founded in 1987 and approved by the Holy See and raised to an abbey in 1989. The nuns of this foundation were also originally affiliated with Msgr. Lefebvre.
Benedictine Monastery of Fontgombault (Diocese of Bourges, France and Tulsa, U.S.A.). This monastery has permission to celebrate Mass in Latin using either the traditional missal of 1962 or the Novus Ordo of 1970 but, among more than one hundred monks, only four use the latter. In 1999, the French monastery established a daughter house at Hulbert, Oklahoma in the Diocese of Tulsa (U.S.A.). Abbot: Dom Antoine Forgeot, O.S.B.; Prior in the U.S.A.: Fr. Philip Anderson, O.S.B.
Benedictine Abbey of Notre-Dame-de-Randol (St.-Saturnin, Diocese of Clermont, France). Abbot: Dom de Lesquen, O.S.B.
Benedictine Abbey of Notre-Dame-de-Triors (Châtillon-Saint-Jean, Diocese of Valence, France). Abbot: Dom Hervé Courau, O.S.B.
Benedictine Monastery of Notre-Dame-de-Gaussan: monks.
Benedictine Monastery of Notre-Dame-de-Miséricorde (Rosans, Diocese of Gap, France): nuns.
Benedictine Abbey of Notre-Dame-de-Fidélité (Jouques, Archdiocese of Aix, France): nuns. Abess: Mo. Gabrielle de Trudon, O.S.B.
Institute Of The Good Shepherd.

WHY GO AS FAR AS MENTIONING THE FRATERNAL SOCIETY OF ST. PIUS 10,, OF COURSE WHY. IT IS RAPIDLY EXPANDING WITH OVER 500 ORTHODOX PRIEST ORDAINED AND THEIR SEMS IN THE USA, AUSTRALIA ARGENTINA AND SWITZERLAND FILLED AND NOT ENOUGH ROOM FOR THE MANY YOUNG MEN WHO ARE SEEKING ENTRY. THE HOLY FATHER AND VARIOUS DECASTERIES ARE IN DIALOGUE WITH SSPX TO REGULARIZE THEIR STATUS IN THE CHURCH AFTER THE UNAUTHORIZED BUT VALID CONSECRATION OF BISHOPS. THE HOLY FATHER'S BOTH POPE JOHN PAUL 2 AND POPE BENEDICT 16TH HAVE REPEATEDLY STATED THIS IS AN INTERNAL AFFAIR OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. IF SSPX WERE IN SCHISM IT WOULD NOT BE AN INTERNAL CATHOLIC AFFAIR. I PERSONNALY CANNOT WAIT TILL SSPX & THE VATICAN RECONCILE, THOSE PRIESTS ARE SORELY NEEDED WORLDWIDE.PACEM

John Paul the 2nd DID NOT have a universal indult but a limited indult at the mercy of local bishops. THE MOTU PROPRIO SUMMORUM PONIFICUM (IS NOT REPEAT,IS NOT AN INDULT UNIVERSAL OR OTHERWISE. POPE BENEDICT 16TH STATED IN SUMMORUM PONTIFICUM THE ANCIENT LATIN MASS CODIFIED AT THE COUNCIL OF TRENT WAS NEVER ABROGATED, NEVER MADE ILLEGAL, THOSE WERE THE MASINATIONS OF LEFTIST/SECULAR/HUMANIST/NEO PROTESTANT AND ERRANT CATHOLIC BISHOPS. THE PAPAL BULL QUO PRIMUM DECLARED ANYONE AND I MEAN ANYONE IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ANATHEMA IF HE OR SHE DENIES OR HINDERS OR FORBIDS THE ANCIENT LITURGY WE HAVE COME TO KNOW AS THE TRIDENTINE MASS AKA LATIN MASS, PACEM
