Worth reading: There’s a Huckabee Born Every Minute
Any thoughts?

Coulter is a joke.."liberals swooning over Huckabee?" The guy is anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, pro-death penalty, anti-evolution. The only GOP candidates that liberals swoon over is pro-choice Rudy Giuliani and anti-war Ron Paul.
Here's the real news: How do you Thompsonites like the latest California Field poll? It shows Huckabee surging to second place behind Giuliani(at 25%), going from 4% in October to 17% now while Thompson slipped from 12% in October to 6% now. thompson is running in 5th place in California!

J.O.
Huckabee is a pro-life liberal. His religious views are evangelical, yes, but there is no connect between them and conservative principles like low taxes, smaller government, ending the welfare state, ending the federal government's involvement with education, immigration, etc.
Conservative values are organically derived from Christian principles. It is worrisome that a candidate like Huckabee, a Baptist minister, cannot make that intellectual disconnect. His response?
"I drink a different kind of Jesus juice"
Didn't they teach him at minister school not to use the Lord's name in vain? I don't mind him mentioning the birth of Christ in his Christmas message or anywhere else. But he's a conservative only in an evangelical sense.
Why does fiscal/social conservativism matter? When the government controls schools (and not parents), they can use them to brainwash students to liberal agendas. I know a lot of homeschoolers are pro-Huckabee, but he is not the most pro-homeschool candidate out there. Also, he wants to increase funding to public schools!
Reliance on government to solve things only lessens our personal responsibilities in our communities. Huckabee's policies forward government reliance and not personal responsibility.

Shoulda proofread that last:
Ahem:
It is worrisome...that (he) cannot make that intellectual connection. (as opposed to disconnect)

J.O., I think you missed Coulter's point. If I understand her correctly, she is saying that liberals are hoping Huckleberry is nominated because he fits the stereotype they love to hate--a southern, evangelical "goober." She believes the liberals would have a field day tearing him apart in the general election.
If that is what she means to say, then I agree with her. I don't think of myself as a liberal, but I would no sooner vote for Hucksterbee than I would vote for Jimmy Swaggart. I saw Huckabee's political ad, with the cross and Christmas tree in the background, and it seems, to me, to be a cynical manipulation of the religious sentiments of simple people. Then, I heard him claim that the props in the background were an accident (right!). I don't trust the guy.
I also agree with Coulter that Duncan Hunter is a much better choice than any of the other candidates. But, a Hunter nomination ain't happenin'.
At this point, I hope it will be Giuliani or Thompson. If I must choose between Romney or Huckabee vs. Hillary, I may not even show up at the polls. That is a nightmare scenario.

Come on, its all bluster at this point. I can't see Republicans in any significant numbers walking away from any nominee except Giuliani.
