STATEMENT OF FRANCIS CARDINAL GEORGE, O.M.I., ARCHBISHOP OF CHICAGO June 3, 2008

To put recent events in some perspective, I have asked Father Michael Pfleger, Pastor of St. Sabina’s Parish, to step back from his obligations there and take leave for a couple of weeks from his pastoral duties, effective today. Fr. Pfleger does not believe this to be the right step at this time. While respecting his disagreement, I have nevertheless asked him to use this opportunity to reflect on his recent statements and actions in the light of the Church’s regulations for all Catholic priests. I hope that this period will also be a time away from the public spotlight and for rest and attention to family concerns. I hope also that the life of St. Sabina’s parish may continue in uninterrupted fashion. Fr. William Vanecko, Pastor of St. Kilian’s parish, will be temporary administrator of St. Sabina’s and will assure the full complement of ministerial services during this period. I ask the members of St. Sabina’s parish to cooperate with him and to keep him and Fr. Pfleger in their prayers. They are in mine.

Of course, the parishoners are already planning protests. Pray that they and Fr. Pfleger come to understanding of obedience and authority in the Church.

This priest is a disgrace and to see how his mass is said say the same. When are we going to pray the Holy Mass as Roman Catholic rather then as black, hispanic or any other race. This is also for clown masses and halloween masses.

After 10 years of Pfleger's antics, all I can say to Cardinal George is "About time!" Watching this priest and parish is sad beyond words. It will be interesting as to what happens in two weeks.

Cardinal George to the best I can see, takes some orders from scumbag politician Richy Daley who is pro-choice of a mother to kill her baby, pro-homosexual and so on---you get the picture.
Cardianl Francis may need a post in the Vatican perhaps, I don't know. I do know he does nothing for the culture war in Chicago; he does nothing for LEADING Christians to political responsibility in Chicago.
I'm thoroughly disgusted with mute "catholic" priests.
I'm sick of the cowardice.
The church supposed to teach the culture , not follow the culture.
